Study starts Thursday, September 16th
This life is hard — Hebrews doesn’t sugarcoat the very real challenges we face; but it gives us a road map, and an example to follow, The SON who did RISE and is worthy of our worship and trust!
STUDY OVERVIEW
We speak often of faith and hope, but without an object these are just empty words. The Book of Hebrews gives us a beautiful comprehensive explanation as to why Jesus is the ultimate answer. Hebrews teaches us why He is superior, and how to live boldly in a world that becomes more confusing by the day. It teaches us how to stand strong and finish the race that we are in. It paints a picture of real people who have faced the same trials we are up against today, but endured and finished well. These heroes of faith are cheering us on — reminding us that its all worth it! This life is hard — Hebrews doesn’t sugarcoat the very real challenges we face; but it gives us a road map, and an example to follow, The SON who did RISE and is worthy of our worship and trust!
We tend to be attentive to our calendars, scheduling our days and looking ahead to see what we have planned. But, do you know what is ahead on God’s kingdom calendar, what lies ahead on His agenda? Paul’s letter to the new believers in Thessalonica gives a clear understanding of events leading up to Christ’s return. His letter also offers encouragement to stand strong, to continue living out our life and purpose with perseverance and love. Paul gives us practical advice on how to live as “children of light” in a world that can seem dark and uncertain. He reminds us that we can look forward to a Day, a Dramatic Day, when we will see the Lord face to face. We have this hope, and we can live with great anticipation, because one day soon, the Father will declare the time He set for the next event to unfold. With a loud command and the sounding of a trumpet, He will declare the SON’s DAY!
GETTING STARTED
If you’re new to @Home Bible Study, you can read more about us here.
We recommend you start by creating your own group. All you need is a time and place to meet, and a facilitator to organize the details and moderate discussions.
Each group has the freedom to determine where and when to meet, the number of members, and the format.
The weekly discussion questions and video will be available each week on the @Home Bible Study website and can be used as your group decides. The following are suggestions that may help get your group organized.
Select one or two co-hosts (besides yourself) for times when you will be out of town or unable to lead.
Choose a day and time and stick with it. For those wanting to follow the traditional Thursday Bible Study format and watch the lecture as a group, plan to meet on Thursdays from 11 am to 1 pm CST. Discussion time to go over the completed questions will be from 11 am - 12 pm. The lecture will be available each week on the website, and can be accessed by pressing the grey arrow on the video thumbnail.
This schedule can be modified accordingly for those who want to include lunch during the video, make announcements, or add prayer time at the beginning or end. For those who wish to meet on another day or time, the lecture will stay permanently on the website and can be accessed at a time convenient for your group.
Some groups may want to have lunch during the video portion. Your group can decide how to handle this: For instance, group members can take turns bringing food for the group, or each individual bringing their own “sack lunch.”
Prayer is an important component. Smaller groups may want to end with prayer requests or prayer time. Some groups may choose to draw prayer partners. Or, someone can gather prayer requests and share them in a confidential, time-sensitive manner.
Confidentiality is KEY in the success of a group. Never share personal information about another member of your group or the answers that are shared in confidence.
We are happy to provide any help or training to get you started. Any concerns or questions, please contact us and someone will get back to you promptly. We are thrilled to have you @Home!
