(HIS)tory Book
From Beginning to Beginning
So often when we study the Bible, we focus on one book, or a topic. But, have you ever looked at the purpose of the Bible as a whole? Next year, let’s widen our scope and look at the Big Picture. When we take time to study God’s Word in its entirety, we are able to see the continuity and the prevailing message of love and redemption that is woven into the first pages of scripture to the final verse.
The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by 40 different authors on three different continents, in three different languages, over a span of 1500 years. Even though the men who wrote the books contained in God’s Word varied in their professions from kings to fishermen, from prophets to tax collectors, from priests to a physician, there is a central theme that is never contradicted. Over a quarter of the Bible is prophetic. To date over half of those prophecies have been fulfilled and proven, both historically and scientifically.
With that in mind, doesn’t it seem worthwhile to look at the ones that have yet to be fulfilled? Don’t you want to know what to expect, what is yet to come? And don’t we all want to know that we were created for a purpose, that we have a role, and are significant in the eyes of God?
Join us next year, as we wind our way through key points in scripture that highlight the sovereign plan of God for His people. The study will begin in Genesis for a reminder of God’s original intention, the crisis of sin, and His solution. We will look at a few pivotal moments in the Old Testament to witness the promises, places and provision God provided for His people. There will be a brief stop in the Psalms and Proverbs before moving on to the prophets both BIG and small. And then, we will land in the New Testament where we will see many of those promises were fulfilled. We’ll conclude by looking at a couple of letters that remind us that the plan God has for His people has not changed.
The Bible isn’t just a book about history — it’s HIS story and you have a part. This Book was written for you — so that you can KNOW the Truth. And most importantly, so that you can know the ONE who wrote it. When God speaks, His Words take action. He means what He says and He does what He promises. Next year, our study is: (HIS)tory Book, a Study of His Word from Beginning to Beginning.
